the joke of the day….

The joke of the day on campus — the oscars.

The real joke — slumdog.

It feels good to have Indians on stage and all, but there was way better performances from the Indians before and that even failed to win up on the foreign film category. Slumdog, I feel is an ok movie worth one watch — not life alteringly profound or anything. But the awards has had a sobering effect on some of the english-movie crazed crowd (like me), made us realize that there are far better (read profound etc.) movies in local indian languages abeit unrecognized (unawarded). Many, like me, have started hitting the indian DVDs from today. :P

Makes me wonder “Why did Slumdog Millionare end up with so many?” (There unfortunately is more options than a-d, so what do you think is the reason, comment up)

a) It was a ‘mind+body+soul’ blowingly great.

b) The director was WHITE.

c) The ratio of WHITE : every other color in the credits was high enough.

d) FOX bankrolled whoever it is to be bankrolled.

e) Americans love the quaint little porayal of india (should I hold up a sarcasm card).

f) God does play dice — the perversions of probability.

g) This is so irrational — looking for a reason is bound to fail.

h) This shallowness is all that is there in english movies — all of them lack the intensity of raw real life, but is rather filled with childish fairly tale dreams.

i) …. because it was all about hope — let people have that  dope, more so in the bleak economy.

j) None of the abobe (Did I miss something — enlighten me…)

(Written yesterday 23/02/09 after the oscar news overload)

P.S: I have a project seminar this week and I am so dead from all the slacking I did all this time.
